"I'm so grateful to Dr. Papale and his staff, I was nervous, but they answered all of my questions and Dr. Papale was there through the whole surgery walking me through step by step. Trust me, if you're considering LASIK, you want to meet Dr. John Papale."

“I have always had poor vision. After a great deal of research, I realized that LASIK was a safe option for a correctable impairment. My wife is a nurse. She has worked with Dr. Papale in the operating room of the Baystate Medical Center. She highly recommended his ability. The doctor and his staff made the experience calm and interesting. I did not feel as though I was just another number. The LASIK experience seemed to be a shared event. In an odd way it seemed joyful. It gives me more confidence for the street aspects of my profession. It is the best “selfish” decision I have made.”
Robert Cheetham, Police Lieutenant
“I had considered [LASIK] for approximately 3 years. It took a while for me to make the decision to actually go through with it. Two women that I work with had LASIK at approximately the same time. One with Dr. Papale and the other with [another surgeon]. One experienced many problems. The other was seeing 20/15 with no problems. That’s why I chose Dr. Papale. I was extremely nervous ahead of time, but once in the room Dr. Papale and staff kept me informed as to what was going to happen, how the laser would sound, what to expect, etc. They were excellent and it was completely pain-free. I can see better now than I ever did with my contacts or glasses. I no longer have to be afraid of ripping a contact and having to drive home. The birds at the feeder have eyes—there’s bark on the trees. There is such crispness in my vision now. Go for it! I wish I had done it years ago. One thing that the doctor or his staff didn’t warn me about was that my cheeks were going to be so sore from constantly smiling!!”

A cataract is clouding of the eye's lens that prevents the eye from focusing on lights, colors, and shapes — causing images to appear fuzzy or blurred. The development of cataracts is a normal part of the aging process; however, cataracts may sometimes develop early as a result of disease, trauma to the eye, medications, or exposure to UV light. The best treatment for cataracts is surgery to remove and replace the cloudy lens.
Cataract surgery is considered the safest and most effective treatment for cataracts. At Papale Eye Center, we perform cataract surgery at a facility in Springfield, Massachusetts on an outpatient basis. The operation is simple. A small incision is made in the eye, and the cloudy lens is broken up and quickly removed. A flexible lens replacement is then inserted through the incision and unfolded into place. This lens replacement is referred to as an intraocular lens, or lens implant. Once in place, the lens implant naturally adheres to the eye. In the majority of cases, the eye incision heals on its own, requiring no stitches. After surgery for cataracts is complete, our patients can leave the Springfield, Massachusetts eye center the same day. Recovery involves little more than resting at home.
Cataract surgery has advanced to the point where there is little, if any discomfort involved in the entire procedure. In most cases, cataract surgery can be performed as a no-stitch, no-shot surgery, meaning patients will not have to receive any injections to numb their eyes (anesthetic drops will be used instead) or deal with stitches to close the small incision in the eye (the incision will heal naturally). This no-stitch cataracts treatment technique, which was first introduced to the Springfield, Massachusetts area by Dr. John Papale, is not only safer for the patient, but also produces less discomfort and quicker recovery.
For years, Papale Eye Center has remained at the forefront of cataract treatment. We have gone out of our way to incorporate new technology into our practice to make cataract treatment safer and more effective. Our premier eye surgeons, Drs. John Papale and J. Peter Bouvier, together, have performed more than 10,000 LASIK and cataract surgery procedures over the course of their careers. They are the surgeons of choice for many doctors and nurses throughout the Springfield, Massachusetts area. If you are considering cataract surgery, Dr. Papale, Dr. Bouvier, and the Papale Eye Center staff will answer all of your treatment questions, assist you with financing, and help you explore the many benefits that cataract surgery has to offer, including clearer vision at all distances with the ReSTOR® lens, ReZoom™, or crystalens® implants.
